The Kübelwagen was designed by Ferdinand Porsche on the basis of the civilian people's car, and the wartime version designated Type 82 inherited from it the air-cooled four-cylinder at the rear as well as its simple construction. It had no all-wheel drive. Even so, thanks to a weight of around six hundred kilograms, a limited-slip differential and reduction gears in the rear wheel hubs, it coped with sand and mud better than anyone would expect from a single driven axle. Over fifty thousand were built and it served on every front as a liaison, staff and ambulance car. The boxy sheet-metal body was easy to repair and just as easy to rust.
The metal elements pay off mainly on the fenders, the grab handles and the windshield frame. Suggest the canvas roof with a thin paper tissue soaked in thinned glue. Complement the gray or sand color with dust in the grooves of the body. Make the scuffed places around the steps with a hard pencil.
