A pair of German machine guns of the Second World War in one package. MG 34-42 set in 1:35 scale is cast in resin and complemented by photo-etched parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item brings together the two best-known German automatic infantry weapons in a single package. The resin castings capture the shape of the weapons, and the photo-etched metal parts add what cannot come out in a casting: the perforated barrel jacket, the bipod, the sights. 1:35 scale.
The MG 34 came into service in the middle of the 1930s as the first general-purpose machine gun in the world: machined from solid material, accurate, expensive and sensitive to dirt. From 1942 the MG 42 complemented it with a weapon of pressed sheet and spot welds that could be made faster and more cheaply. A rate of around twelve hundred rounds a minute gave its fire the sound of tearing cloth, and the soldiers had a nickname for it taken from a bone saw. The crew could change a red-hot barrel in a few seconds.
Small castings call for tweezers, a sharp knife and a steady hand. Once they are washed free of release agent, separate the parts from the blocks with a cut, not by breaking them off. Bend the metal components over the edge of a ruler. Start the finish with dark gray rather than black and lighten the edges with a metallic pigment.
The package contains the parts of the weapons, and figures and paints are not included in it.
