A resin, 3D-printed detail set from Reskit in 1:35 scale, intended for the plastic Mi-24 kit from Trumpeter. It replaces the main rotor from the kit with a finely printed resin substitute. To be clear right away: this is not a kit of the helicopter but an accessory, and the base Trumpeter model has to be owned.
The rotor head is a tangle of linkages, joints and dampers. Injection-molded plastic can never render it completely, for a simple technical reason: a mold cannot be broken down into that much complexity, so the detail has to be simplified and the thin elements thickened. 3D-printed resin does not suffer from that limitation: it allows sharp edges, thin linkages and fine joints that cannot be cast or molded. And because the rotor head sits on top, at the viewer's eye level, it is probably the most visible part of the whole model. That is exactly why this kind of set exists.
The Mi-24, NATO code Hind, is a Soviet attack helicopter with an unusual dual role: it is at once an armed combat machine and a transport, because it carries a landing party in its cabin. That combination of armored firepower and the ability to deliver troops directly to the spot made it one of the most widespread and most heavily used combat helicopters ever.
Do not glue the resin parts with polystyrene cement, which is worthless on them. Use super glue (cyanoacrylate) or epoxy. The thin linkages of the rotor head are fragile: cut the supports off with a sharp knife, with a light touch and preferably over a work surface. Wash the parts before painting in lukewarm water with detergent, because print resin residue otherwise reduces paint adhesion. Where sanding is needed, sand wet, and do not breathe in the resin dust. It pays to paint the rotor head and bring it out with a wash before fitting it to the model.
A detail set, not a model. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted, without the base kit. Glue and paints are not included in the package.
