A resin radio box for the Sherman Firefly VC in 1:35 scale. The armored box is fitted to the rear of the turret and is one of the recognition features of the British conversion.
Responsibility details are not available.
Quality cast resin captures the box together with its rims and lid. It is added to the rear wall of the turret, where it really sat on the British version of the Sherman, and it is one of the parts that make a Firefly tell apart from an ordinary American tank at first glance. Against a bare turret rear the change is noticeable at once.
The British built a 17-pounder anti-tank gun into the Sherman so that in 1944 they would have a weapon able to hit the Panther and the Tiger. The gun was so long and its breech so bulky that the space for the radio set inside the turret had to be given up. The solution was an armored box welded on at the rear, into which the set was moved. The VC variant was based on the American M4A4 version, and in British and Allied regiments it became the most valuable means against the German heavy tanks.
The surface on the rear of the turret has to be flat, otherwise a gap appears. Level it with a sanding sponge, attach the box with cyanoacrylate and run a thin layer of putty over the joint so that it looks like a weld. Protect the small details on the rim while sanding, as they are hard to make again. Fit the box only once the turret is finished, so that you have free access to all the surfaces while sanding.
Paints and glue are to be obtained separately.
