Metal 76.2 mm gun barrel for the SU-76M, 1:35

A turned metal barrel of the Soviet 76.2 mm divisional gun for a model of the SU-76M light self-propelled gun, in 1:35 scale. It is not a model but a replacement part. On a model with an open fighting compartment the barrel with its muzzle brake is the most conspicuous feature, and a plastic part carries a parting line along its whole length.

Building and painting tips

Drill the opening in the front of the fighting compartment to the diameter of the shank, so that the barrel seats square. It is glued with super glue. Degrease the part before painting and lay down a primer. The SU-76M had a fighting compartment open at the top and at the rear, so it can be seen into and it pays to finish it before closing the assembly up. Soviet green takes strong highlighting well, because large smooth surfaces otherwise look flat.
