About product

StuG III Ausf. G, Alkett production of May and June 1943, 1:35 scale

An injection-molded plastic kit of the German StuG III Ausf. G assault gun from the Ukrainian brand MiniArt. The boxing is bounded by a narrow production window of the Berlin Alkett factory, so the shape of the superstructure, the cupola and the mounting of the small stowage match the vehicles from the turn of spring and summer 1943. Besides the plastic sprues, the package holds photo-etched parts and a decal sheet with several marking options.

The real subject

The Sturmgeschutz III Ausf. G was the most numerous version of the whole family of assault guns on the Panzer III chassis. The main weapon was a 7.5 cm StuK 40 gun in a low superstructure with no rotating turret. The low silhouette made concealment in a firing position easier, and the vehicles were cheap to build, so they could be turned out in large numbers. The original role of infantry support gradually gave way to use against tanks. Alkett was the main supplier and the individual monthly batches differed from each other in the details of the hatches, the fenders, the tool brackets and the side armor skirts.

Building and painting tips

It pays to glue and spray the running gear and the road wheels before the hull is finally closed. Bend the photo-etched parts over a metal edge and fix them with super glue, while plastic joints take thin cement for plastic instead. Lay the base tone over a primer, so that it holds on the etched parts as well. A layered coat of dark yellow with patches is then tied together by a dark wash and dry pigments on the running gear.

Who the model is for

  • modelers with experience of multi-part running gear
  • collectors of German armor of the Second World War
  • builders of Eastern Front and Italian Front dioramas
  • anyone interested in precisely dated production batches

The box holds the plastic parts, the photo-etched parts, the decals and the instructions. A finished and painted vehicle still has to be made from them, because glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

It matches the vehicles built in the Alkett factory in May and June 1943, that is the specific shape of the superstructure, the hatches and the small stowage of that period.

Yes, alongside the plastic sprues the manufacturer encloses photo-etched parts for the fine elements that cannot be molded in plastic.

On the StuG III assault guns it is the StuK 40 gun, not the turret-mounted KwK. The abbreviation StuK stands for Sturmkanone.

Ordinary thin modeling cement is enough for the plastic, but the photo-etched parts hold reliably only with super glue.
