A photo-etched folding tool box 1:35 from Royal Model. The flat parts are bent and glued, and the tools themselves are not included.
Responsibility details are not available.
This photo-etched metal accessory from the Royal Model brand represents a folding case with concertina tiers of the kind mechanics know from workshops and field repair shops. It is not a finished object: the parts are etched flat, and only bending and gluing turn them into a three-dimensional box.
The edges have pre-formed grooves along which the sheet breaks. The surest way to bend is in a bending tool or between two razor blades pressed against a straight edge; an edge bent with the fingers tends to come out rounded and the whole thing then does not fit. The joints are held by cyanoacrylate in a minute quantity, and on larger surfaces soft solder helps. Metal is degreased before painting and given a primer for metals, otherwise the shade flakes off at the first touch. It is worth working over a tray, because a small part flies off the tweezers faster than you can react.
The tools themselves, that is the wrenches, hammers and screwdrivers, are not part of the delivery. The box is either filled from other sources or left closed. A closed box set on a fender or on a workbench often looks more convincing in a scene than an open one, because it does not hold the viewer's eye with empty compartments and lets the surrounding scene come through.
The photo-etch arrives flat and is bent and glued at your end; no tools are enclosed.
