An accessory set of headgear of American tankers from the Italian brand Royal Model captures the equipment of the crews of armored vehicles from the Second World War. These are resin castings intended for figures and for vehicle interiors, not a kit on its own.
The American tank helmet of the 1938 pattern grew out of the helmet for American football players. It was not meant against shell splinters but against knocks on the armor while driving over rough ground: a pressed shell, large openings covered by discs and soft ear protectors into which the headphones fitted. Tankers wore it in the turrets of Shermans, with self-propelled guns and in half-tracks, often with goggles pushed up on the forehead. They kept the M1 steel helmet at hand for the moments when they left the vehicle, because outside the soft shell was no longer any help to them.
First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water so that the remains of mold release agent disappear. Cut the gates off with a saw or a cutter, level the surface with a sanding sponge and protect your airways while sanding. Cyanoacrylate glue holds the joints, and a thin primer from a spray can forms the undercoat for the paint. Darken the inside of the helmet so that the result looks deep and not like a solid ball.
