Wespe: part 1, 1:35 (Royal Model)

A detail set for refining a model of the German Wespe self-propelled howitzer in 1:35 scale from the Italian maker Royal Model. This is the first part of a multi-part upgrade, not a model. The set combines fine photo-etched metal parts and resin castings that replace the simplified plastic elements and markedly raise the realism.

The real subject

The Wespe (Sd.Kfz.124) was a German self-propelled howitzer of the Second World War that combined the chassis of a light tank with a caliber of 105 mm. It served as mobile artillery support.

Use

• Wash the resin parts clean of the remains of mold release agent and cut off the casting blocks.
• Bend the etched parts on an etch bender or with precise tweezers.
• Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); do the sanding of resin with respiratory protection.
• Degrease the parts and lay down a primer before painting.
