This item by Reskit represents the AGM-78 Standard ARM antiradiation missile in 1:48 scale. It is a resin accessory of underwing armament that is fitted onto a finished aircraft model. The casting holds the slender body and the thin fins; it is precisely with these shapes that resin has the edge over injection-molded plastic, because it needs neither a parting line nor thickening for the sake of the mold.
The AGM-78 is an American missile that homed on the emissions of ground radars, developed from a naval antiaircraft missile. It was used in the role of suppressing air defenses, that is on machines whose task was to find and silence radars. Compared with the older AGM-45 missile it had greater range and a heavier warhead, which its dimensions match, so on a model it makes a prominent store.
Wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with detergent so that the remains of the mold release agent come off. Cut the casting block away with a saw and level the surface with a file; support the fins as you work so that they do not bend. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, drop by drop on thin parts. Apply a primer before painting. Paint the missile separately from the aircraft and fit it only at the end, as you then reach both its body and the pylon better.
