FineMolds 1:72 IJN Zero, 20 mm cannon barrels and pitot tube, are genuine metal replacement parts from FineMolds for their own Zero models; it is not a kit. The barrels have a real bore, and the pitot tube, unlike the plastic one, will not snap off.

This is not an airplane kit but a set of replacement parts for models of the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zero carrier fighter in 1:72 scale. They are genuine parts straight from FineMolds, so the manufacturer is offering improved parts for its own kits. The package holds turned metal barrels for the 20 mm wing cannon and a metal pitot tube, which replace the plastic parts from the kit.
The barrel: the plastic barrel is thick and blind from the mold, with the muzzle only suggested. A turned metal barrel is thin and has a real bore, a genuine opening at the muzzle that cannot be reproduced faithfully in plastic. The Zero carried its 20 mm cannon in the wings, so the barrels are clearly visible on both sides of the model.
The pitot tube measures airspeed and on the real aircraft it is a thin projecting spike on the wing or the nose. On a model it is the most exposed part of all: a plastic tube breaks at practically the first careless touch, whether during the build, while carrying the model or while dusting the display case. A metal one lasts. That is the main reason modelers buy this set.
The Mitsubishi A6M Zero was the legendary Japanese carrier fighter: exceptionally agile and with enormous range, which caught the Allies out early in the war. It was paid for drastically: the aircraft had no pilot armor and no self-sealing tanks, so it caught fire easily when hit.
Watch the chemistry: metal does not bond with cement for polystyrene, so use cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) or epoxy. Before painting, degrease the metal parts (with alcohol or a degreaser) and prime them, because otherwise the paint will not hold on smooth metal and will come off in handling. Do not fill the bore of the barrel with paint; clear the muzzle carefully if need be.
