A set of masking films for spraying the camouflage scheme of the Iranian F-14A Tomcat aircraft, 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-14A Tomcat is a two-seat carrier fighter with a variable-sweep wing. Iran became the only overseas user of this type: it took the machines over back in the seventies and operated them for long decades afterward, for a long time without proper support from the manufacturer. Iranian Tomcats therefore wore a different finish from the machines of the US Navy, and it is precisely that which this set is aimed at.
A camouflage scheme with irregular fields is the hardest part of painting. Cutting them out of tape means drawing the shapes by eye and then missing them again on the other half of a model. Pre-cut masks remove that problem: the outline of a field is given and it comes out the same on both halves. It also does away with transferring shapes from a plan onto a model, which with irregular fields tends to be the source of the most frequent mistakes. The set is listed for 1:48 scale.
Before masking, the surface must be clean, dry and degreased. Apply the colors in order from the lightest tone; attach the masks only onto a dried coat and press them down around their whole perimeter, so that no paint runs under the edge. Spray in thin coats and perpendicular to the surface, not at an angle under the edge of a mask. If you want a soft transition between the fields, put a thin strip under the edge of a mask and spray across the gap that forms. Remove the masks once the paint is dry to the touch, pulling them at an angle along the surface.
The masking films alone are supplied. Paints, thinner and other modeling material are not in the package, unless stated otherwise.
