The Kitty Hawk 80131 F2H-2 Banshee is a 1:48 plastic kit of the American carrier-borne jet, with a choice of a fighter or a reconnaissance nose.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the carrier-borne jet in 1:48 scale. The box contains two variants of the nose, so you choose between the fighter version and the reconnaissance form with photographic equipment. The cockpit is well worked out and the decals offer four marking options. This was the first solid rendering of the type in this scale.
The Banshee was a twin-engine carrier-borne jet of the US Navy from the turn of the forties and fifties. Its engines were housed in the wing roots, so the fuselage stayed free for fuel and equipment, and compared with the first carrier jets it offered a substantially greater ceiling and range. In the Korean War it served as an escort fighter as well as an attack aircraft, and in its reconnaissance form it photographed over enemy territory. Its high ceiling was its main strength and on long flights over the sea it was a rewarding machine.
The model has a light tail, so put ballast in the nose, roughly eight grams; otherwise the model will sit down on its tail in the display case and it cannot be put right. The outer wing panels join butt to butt with no pin, so reinforce the joint with wire and glue it on a flat surface. The plastic is softer and small parts break easily, so separate them with a file or a sharp knife. The dark blue gloss navy finish comes out best on a smooth base, so do not underestimate the sanding.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
