A note right up front: this is not a kit or an airplane model. It is a modeling accessory — shaped plugs made of flexible foam that exactly fill the landing gear bays of the F4U-1A/2 Corsair model in 1:48 scale from Magic Factory. The model itself is not included in the package.
The Corsair has its bays set deep in the gull-shaped wing, and the modeler paints and details them before closing up the model. Once the whole model is then sprayed from the outside, the bays must be sealed — otherwise paint gets into them and the finished interior is ruined. Masking tape and cotton wool are hard to shape into such a cavity and still do not seal it properly. The plug simply drops into the bay, the model is sprayed, and once it dries the plug is removed. Fast, tight and repeatable with precision. The plug also protects the bay during sanding and handling — sanding dust cannot get inside.
Each plug is shaped to the bay of a specific kit. This set is designed exclusively for the 1:48 F4U-1A/2 Corsair from Magic Factory. It will not fit Corsairs from other manufacturers, even of the same aircraft type — the shape of the bay differs from kit to kit. Make sure you have exactly this kit.
The Vought F4U Corsair was an American carrier-based fighter of the Second World War, recognizable at a glance by its gull-shaped wing — which allowed the landing gear legs to be shortened under the enormous propeller. The F4U-2 was a night-fighter version fitted with radar, which let it operate after dark as well.
This is an accessory for the model, not a model itself. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
