This product is not an airplane kit but a resin replacement part. It replaces the cowling of the Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat kit in 1:48 scale from Eduard, in the early form of the cowling and with the cooling flaps in the open position. Open flaps match the state in which the aircraft stood on the deck or on the apron with the engine stopped or running - that is the situation most modelers show in a display case.
The Hellcat went through changes to the cowling and its cooling during production, so the version of the cowling is not a cosmetic detail but a question of getting a particular machine right. The early type of cowling has its own shaping and layout of flaps. Injection-molded plastic moreover usually offers the flaps closed only, because otherwise they would have to be absurdly thick. A resin casting allows thin flap edges and an open view into the space behind them, which markedly enlivens the whole frontal view of the model - the radial engine then looks as if it had somewhere to breathe.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as a resin casting. The basic kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
