About product

The German Torn.Fu.b1 radio set — a 3D-printed accessory in 1:48 (Firma49)

A detailed reduction of the German portable (pack) radio set Torn.Fu.b1 in 1:48 scale from the Czech brand Firma49. It is not a model kit: it is a standalone accessory meant to bring a scene with figures to life, with a radio operator and a signaler, at a command post or behind the lines of a combat unit. It is printed in high-resolution SLA resin, so it captures the case of the set and the small controls faithfully. The same subject is made in 1:35 scale for larger figures as well.

The real subject

The Torn.Fu.b1 (short for the German Tornister-Funkgerät, that is a pack radio set) was a German portable field radio of the Second World War, introduced in the second half of the 1930s. It served the infantry at regiment and battalion level as the link between the staff and units in the field. It was a shortwave receiver and transmitter carried on the backs of two soldiers — one carried the set itself, the other the battery unit with the headphones, the key, the microphone and the antenna. It was not used on the march; the crew set it up only at a position. It is a typical piece of German signals equipment and a rewarding detail in any infantry or staff scene.

Work and painting tips

Separate the part carefully from the supports with a sharp knife or a saw, wash off any print resin residue and bond it with super glue (cyanoacrylate) — ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on resin. Sand it with your airways protected if needed. A primer is worth applying, then field gray paint and drybrushing or pigments to pick out the edges and the detail.

Who the accessory is for

  • Modelers and diorama builders creating scenes with German infantry of the Second World War
  • Collectors and painters of figures in 1:48 scale who want a faithful piece of period equipment
  • Builders of command post and signals scenes
  • More experienced modelers used to working with small resin parts

This is a 3D-printed resin accessory. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; figures, paints and glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. It is a standalone 3D-printed accessory — a reduction of the radio set for a diorama or a figure. It is not a kit of a whole model, just one detailed object that usually only needs cleaning up, possibly bonding from a few parts, and painting.

For bringing a scene with German infantry of the Second World War to life — with a radio operator or signaler figure, at a command post or in a trench. It goes very well with military figures and period equipment.

Yes, Firma49 makes the same radio set in 1:35 scale for larger figures.
