British Mk.II reflector gunsight for the Hurricane 1:48 (3DF, clear 3D print)

This set contains a clear (transparent) 3D printed British Mk.II reflector gunsight in 1:48 scale from 3DF, intended as a detail accessory for a model of the Hawker Hurricane fighter from the Arma Hobby kit. It is not an airplane model but a replacement part for the cockpit. The Mk.II gunsight with its rectangular reflector glass was standard equipment on British fighters during the Second World War. The main strength of the part is the transparent rendering of the reflector glass onto which the light of the aiming mark was projected: thanks to clear 3D printing it looks markedly more convincing than a plastic substitute.

Procedure and tips for working with 3D printing

• Wash the parts and clear any print residue off them
• Cut the fine supports off with a sharp knife close to the part and level the surfaces
• Glue with a small amount of cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), away from the clear glass
• Protect the glass against scratches and against fogging from glue fumes
• Paint the frame and leave the glass clear; protect your airways while sanding
