The StuG III Ausf. B assault gun in 1:48 scale is improved by brass replacements for the fenders, hinges and covers that plastic can only suggest.
Responsibility details are not available.
The early German assault gun has a square superstructure on which every thick plastic plate shows. The metal set from the Italian maker Royal Model offers replacements for the fenders, covers, hinges and brackets at 1:48 size, so that once finished the model looks sharper and more convincing than straight out of the box.
The B version was built in 1940 and 1941 on the chassis of a medium tank and carried a short 7.5 cm weapon intended for destroying fortified nests and for direct support of advancing infantry. There was no rotating turret, which lowered both the silhouette and the cost, but aiming had to be done by turning the whole vehicle. This version did not belong in an anti-tank duel: with a short barrel it did not have the penetration for that, and a longer gun came only with the later batches. The early version tends to be rarer in the modeling range than the late variants, so an accessory for it makes sense.
First remove the plastic protrusions that the metal replaces and level the surface with an abrasive block. Make the bends in one go, as repeated bending cracks brass. The gray shade of early German equipment stands out if a light filter is used over it.
The set needs a matching kit and the usual modeling equipment, which is not in the package.
