An injection-molded plastic kit model of the American carrier fighter F4U-4B Corsair in 1:72 scale from Italeri. The box holds clear parts for the canopy glazing and decals for two color options. The 4B variant differs from ordinary Corsairs in its armament of four 20 mm cannon in place of machine guns.
The Chance Vought F4U Corsair is among the best known carrier fighters of the Second World War. You can recognize it by its inverted gull wing, its mighty radial engine and its long nose. The F4U-4 version received a more powerful engine with a four-blade propeller and belonged to the peak of the type's development; it still saw combat in the Korean War, where it proved itself above all in the fighter-bomber role against ground targets.
Glue the plastic with liquid modeling cement and sand the joints. Take care over the correct set of the inverted gull wing, as its angle gives the model its characteristic outline. It pays to mask the canopy glazing; the gloss dark blue naval paint (Sea Blue) comes out best after spraying with an airbrush and light weathering that brings out the panels and reveals service wear.
