A kit in 1:72 scale from the brand HäT. The package contains three pontoon wagons of the Napoleonic French train, which can be built either as loaded wagons or as sections of a bridge that has been laid. It is not a figure set: the horses, the crew and the limber are not in the package, and that has to be taken into account when planning a diorama. The parts are supplied unpainted.
The pontoon train was a separate technical branch in the French army. The wagons carried wooden or sheet metal pontoons; once these were launched on the water, decking was laid over them and troops could cross a river without a permanent bridge. The best-known use was the crossing of the Berezina in November 1812, where General Eble's engineers built two bridges in icy water and made the retreat of the remnants of the army possible.
First line the parts up dry; with the wagons it is important that the chassis stands level on all its wheels. The wood of the pontoons is captured with an ocher base and a brown glaze drawn along the grain. Leave the ironwork and the tires dark metal with a hint of rust. If you are building a bridge, bear in mind that three sections give a short stretch; for a wider river you will need more packages. Strengthen the joints of the decking with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
