A plastic kit of the English galleon Revenge in 1:350 scale. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the small parts call for tweezers and a steady hand.
Responsibility details are not available.
Revenge was an English galleon of the late sixteenth century and one of the best known ships of her day. In 1588 Francis Drake sailed in her during the campaign against the Spanish Armada. Three years later, off the Azores, she fought a hopeless action against overwhelming Spanish numbers; it was that which made her a naval legend. Galleons of this period are recognizable by their tall sterncastle, three masts and a bowsprit projecting out over the bow.
It is a plastic kit in 1:350 scale, that is, a fairly small model that will fit even a full display case. A small scale has two faces: the model progresses quickly, but the parts are tiny and you cannot manage them without tweezers. For how many parts the kit holds and what exactly is in the box, check the manufacturer's description.
The hull and the decks are far easier to paint before the masts are fitted; after that, nobody can properly reach the lower deck. At this scale, wood is not done by engraving but with paint: a base shade, darker emphasis in the seams and a light brightening of the surfaces will give depth more reliably than any engraving. Set up the rigging at the very end, working from the mast down, and secure the joints with a drop of super glue. Cut the parts off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the rest down.
Paints, glue, thread for the rigging and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
