This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the Italian maker Italeri holds the German Pak 40 anti-tank gun together with figures of the gun crew. The package is laid out as a set for dioramas and wargaming: it holds two guns and twelve figures in several poses, so each gun gets its own crew. The parts are simply broken down and the build is undemanding.
The Pak 40 was a German 75 mm anti-tank gun that became the standard anti-tank weapon of the Wehrmacht from 1942. It was effective against most Allied tanks at normal combat ranges and was fielded on every front. Given a weight of around a ton and a half, the crew moved it with a towing vehicle, though over shorter distances it could be shifted into its firing position by hand.
Assemble the gun with an eye to the correct angle of the shield and the barrel; clean the flash off the small parts of the mount. Paint the crew figures separately and fit them only once the gun is painted. A base in the Dunkelgelb shade suits the equipment, possibly with camouflage patches. Pick out the metal parts of the barrel and the breech with a dark wash and a light dry brush; finish the base and the lower part of the mount with dust pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
