Metal 8.8 cm KwK 43 barrel for the Tiger II, 1:72

A turned metal barrel of the 8.8 cm tank gun with a barrel length of seventy-one calibers, in 1:72 scale. It is not a model but a replacement part. It is precisely on a long barrel that the difference between plastic and metal shows most, because in this scale the plastic part tends to be thin, bent after it comes out of the mold and, once glued, carries a parting line along its whole length.

Building and painting tips

Drill the hole in the turret out to the diameter of the shank so that the barrel sits square. With a barrel this long it pays to stand the model up after gluing and check it from the front and from above, as the slightest deviation shows at a glance. It is glued with super glue. Degrease the part before painting and apply a primer. If the set does not include a muzzle brake, use the one from the plastic kit.
