HäT 8045 Greek mercenary hoplites is a 1:72 set with forty-eight figures in eight poses; the spears are made up from wire.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of plastic figures in 1:72 scale with forty-eight figures in eight poses. There are no spears in the package and they are made up from wire; in this scale their length works out at roughly three and a half centimeters. The figures are supplied unpainted and suit a Greek as well as a Persian formation, because mercenaries served both sides.
A hoplite was a heavily armored foot soldier with a large round shield, a spear and a short sword who fought in a close phalanx. During the fourth century BC the Greek hoplite became an export commodity: the cities were exhausted by war and thousands of experienced fighters went off for pay to the Persian Great King and to his satraps. Best known is the march of the Ten Thousand, who after a failed campaign fought their way back from the interior of Persia to the sea. Against Alexander, Greek mercenaries then stood in Persian service in every great battle.
Prepare the spears in advance: cut the wire to equal lengths and grind one end to a point. Glue them on with cyanoacrylate glue only onto finished figures. The shield is the most conspicuous surface on a hoplite, so paint it separately, device and all, and attach it last. Do the bronze parts of the armor with a dark base and a dry brush in a warm metal tone.
The figures are supplied unpainted. Spears, paints, glue and bases are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
