A kit of the British single-seat Miles M.5A Sparrowhawk racing aircraft in 1:72 scale, in a scheme linked with the long-distance race to southern Africa.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Miles M.5A Sparrowhawk is one of the British sports and racing machines of the 1930s: a single-seat low-wing monoplane with a slim fuselage, built for speed and range, not for combat tasks. Aircraft of this class made the history of long-distance contests in which the crews threaded their way across Africa along a route made up of short field airstrips. The addition to the name refers to the long-distance race from Britain to southern Africa, to which the finish of the model is tied.
It is a kit in 1:72 scale, that is parts to be glued and painted, not a finished model. The number of parts, the material, the extent of the printing and the recommended build sequence are given in the manufacturer's instructions; check them in advance so that you know what to expect.
A racing machine stands or falls by a smooth surface, because a gloss finish reveals every scratch. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, sand the joints carefully and only then apply the primer. Prepare the thin parts, such as the struts and the landing gear covers, only just before gluing so that they do not get lost.
It will suit modelers who collect civil and racing aviation between the wars, and anyone looking for a subject other than production military types. Because of the small parts it is work for a more experienced hand. Paints, glue and filler are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
