About product

1:72 Mask Set for the Sikorsky CH-54A Tarhe (Eduard, for ICM Kits)

This is not a kit, but a modeling accessory: precisely die-cut self-adhesive masks that you use to cover the model's clear parts before spraying. Per the manufacturer's instructions, the set covers the cockpit glazing and also the landing gear wheels; large interior areas are filled in with masking fluid. Cut for the ICM kit in 1:72 scale.

Why a template, not tape

The cabin frames are narrow, curved and numerous. Cutting them out of tape by hand is slow and imprecise — the edge wanders and paint bleeds underneath. A ready-made mask gives a sharp edge with no bleed and saves hours of work. Above all, it protects the clear part: smeared paint on a canopy is a nightmare to fix. And since this helicopter's cockpit is glazed almost all the way around, a mask pays off here more than almost anywhere else.

The real subject

The Sikorsky CH-54 Tarhe, known by the nickname Skycrane, is an American heavy flying-crane helicopter: instead of a conventional fuselage, it has only a slender frame from which cargo is slung. In Vietnam it carried heavy equipment and became famous for recovering downed aircraft from the field. The cockpit has extensive glazing, including a station for the operator who watches the load slung beneath the aircraft.

Usage tips

Apply the mask to a clean, degreased clear part and do not stretch it over an edge. Spray thin coats. Remove it while the paint is still fresh — once fully cured, the tape can pull the paint off with it. Remove any adhesive residue gently, not with an aggressive thinner, which would cloud the clear plastic.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the ICM CH-54A in 1:72 scale.
  • Anyone who does not want to spend an evening cutting strips of tape.
  • Airbrush painting, where a sharp frame edge shows immediately.
  • Beginners worried about ruining the cockpit.

The mask set is not a kit or a model. It contains no plastic parts, paints or glue — the base kit must be purchased separately.

FAQ

No. It is a set of self-adhesive masks — an accessory to a kit you already own. The CH-54A model itself from ICM in 1:72 scale must be purchased separately.

The masks are die-cut to fit the clear parts of the ICM kit in 1:72 scale. They will not reliably fit a different manufacturer's kit or a different scale.

Yes. Per the manufacturer's instructions, besides the glazing the set also includes masks for the wheels, so you do not have to mask the tires by hand when spraying the hubs.

While the paint is still fresh. Once fully cured, the paint bonds to the edge of the tape and can peel off the model when the mask is removed.
