Royal Model photo-etch for the Sturmtiger assault mortar in 1:72 adds the grilles, grab handles and fine sheet-metal elements of this rare armored vehicle.

This set of photo-etched metal parts from the Italian maker Royal Model adds to a model the elements whose scale thickness is beyond the reach of plastic in 1:72. Typically these are the grilles over the engine, the grab handles, the clips and the sheet-metal covers, which in a finished kit look like heavy castings.
The Sturmtiger came about by converting the hull of the Tiger I heavy tank into a carrier for a 38 cm rocket projector, originally developed for naval use. The vehicle was meant to break through buildings in city fighting, and a single projectile could bring a whole house down. Only a few dozen were built. According to period reports they first went into action in Warsaw in 1944, and they later appeared in the Ardennes and in the Rhineland. Loading was slow and the ammunition supply small, so it was more a weapon of psychological effect than a means of deciding anything. The surviving vehicles are now among the most interesting exhibits in museum collections.
Brass is soft, but small parts are easily lost, so work over a light surface and put the pieces you cut off into a dish. Before painting, degrease the metal and use a primer; the paint will then survive even handling with tweezers.
Inside you will find only the metal parts; the package holds no plastic and no chemicals.
