The Supermarine Spitfire was one of the most famous British fighters of the Second World War. The Mk.I version represented the early production machines with which RAF squadrons were equipped at the start of the war; Spitfire Mk.I aircraft played a key role in the Battle of Britain in 1940. The Mk.Ia version carried an armament of machine guns. The elegant elliptical wing and the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine gave the Spitfire excellent agility and rate of climb, which made it a symbol of British defense and one of the best-known aircraft in history.
The simple build suits beginners too. Paint the cockpit interior before closing up the fuselage and mask the clear glazing. Glue with liquid cement for plastic, apply a primer and lay the colors on with an airbrush or a brush. Bring out the typical British camouflage and the undersides with subtle shading, and apply the decals over gloss varnish.
