Mixing paint with a brush is the surest way of ruining it: the pigment gets into the ferrule, dries there and the hair splays. A metal spoon solves that problem and, on top of it, allows precise dosing, because the paint runs off it without a residue. The package contains two pieces, so you can mix two shades at once and do not have to clean the utensil in between.
Wipe the spoon with a paper towel after every shade, while the paint is still wet, because dried acrylic is harder to get off metal. With solvent-based paints use the appropriate thinner for cleaning. Metal does not stand up to rough scraping, so rather let the thinner work on dried residue than peel it off with a knife. If you use the stirrer for pigments as well, keep one piece reserved just for them, because loose powder clings even after rinsing and would contaminate the next shade.
The accessory is intended for modeling use. Keep it out of the reach of children.
