This is a set of self-adhesive masks for an airbrush, neither decals nor a kit. The masks make it possible to spray the RAF national insignia (roundels and fin flashes) in their early form directly onto the surface of a Spitfire model, so the markings come out under the clear coat and blend with the paint of the airframe with none of the edge typical of decals.

What the masks are for

Sprayed insignia have no glossy decal carrier, they do not peel and they follow the rivets and panel lines better. The early variant means the scheme of roundels and fin flashes used in the initial period of service, which differed in proportions and color rings from the later markings.

Use and tips

• First spray the base color of the marking (most often white), then stick the masks on and add the remaining shades.
• Press the masks down firmly around the perimeter so that the paint does not creep under.
• Take them off soon after the paint has dried, before the adhesive hardens.
