The flank companies of a Polish battalion are represented by forty plastic figures from the set 28mm Napoleonic Duchy of Warsaw Infantry - Elite Company 1807-1814.

While the battalion set of the same period builds a whole line unit, this one concentrates exclusively on the picked men. All forty figures can be built as voltigeurs or as grenadiers, and a command group belongs with them. The package aims at play on a small scale, where closed lines do not face each other but individuals in the terrain do.
Both companies stood on the flanks in every battalion and took the best soldiers. The voltigeurs were smaller and nimbler and were sent out ahead of the line to harass the enemy. The grenadiers, by contrast, stood out by their build and were committed where resistance had to be broken, or covered a retreating skirmish line. On the figures that difference is recognizable from the facings, the plume and the cords.
With the elite companies it pays to invest time in the small colored elements, because it is exactly those that set a figure apart from an ordinary infantryman. Paint the plume last, after the rest of the figure has dried, and use a thicker paint on it without thinning. Go over the faces with a light tone applied with an almost dry brush.
