Squid Pink is not a candy pink. It has a purplish, cool underlying tone of the kind the skin of sea creatures, the inside of a maw or a blood-filled wing membrane has. That is exactly why it is picked out of the gaming palette for octopus-like monsters, shark bellies and the parts of bodies that are meant to act wet and animal. It takes a red wash well, which pulls it toward a fleshy tone.
The paint will pass through a nozzle from 0.2 mm up, but 0.3 to 0.4 mm is more comfortable, especially on larger areas. Keep the pressure low, around one bar; a higher pressure disperses the saturated pink into a fine mist that settles even where it should not. Anyone working with the low pressure of a compressor without an air tank will appreciate a slower pace and longer breaks.
The ground has to be smooth. The pink is translucent and every trace left by a file will stay visible beneath it, so sanding, filling and priming belong at the front, not afterwards. A light filler primer will keep the shade fresh besides. Once dry comes sealing with varnish, and only then shading; the opposite order will disturb the paint. Have thinner ready by the airbrush in case it thickens, and a cleaner too, because the pink pigment holds on tenaciously in the cup and can inconspicuously tint the next light spraying.
In layering it works as a middle tone. It can be lightened by mixing in a pale flesh color and darkened with violet, and both variants suit suggesting volume on smooth organic surfaces.
