XC04 Amethyst Purple is a purple paint from the Gunze Mr.Color range. The XC codes carry shades named after precious stones, and amethyst is the purple one. It is therefore a showy shade, which is not bought for matching the finish of a real subject but for the color itself.
Purple suits robot kits, modified cars and motorcycles, accessories and science fiction subjects, where the color is not tied to a real finish. It also finds use elsewhere in small doses: mixed into black or into blue it shifts a shadow toward a warmer tone, and a purple cast pays off with shadows on figures too, because pure black lacks any color life.
Stir the contents well before use, as the pigment settles at the bottom. Purple is one of the shades that cover less well, so lay it over a light base and add another thin coat rather than reaching for one heavy coat in which brush marks stay. Try the shade on a piece of scrap plastic, because a deep purple looks different on the model than in the cup. You can unify a dried area with a clear varnish, which at the same time deepens the tone of the paint.
