1:35 Display Base - Cobblestone Street Intersection

Display base with a cobblestone intersection, 1:35 scale

This is a base for a model, not a vehicle model. A finished model standing on a bare shelf always looks slightly unfinished, because it floats in empty space. A base with a cobbled surface solves that with a single item: it puts the vehicle or the figure into a setting, gives the scene a sense of scale and at the same time frames the exhibit. This variant captures an intersection, a place where the paving turns in two directions and the pattern of the stones breaks. That break is exactly what makes the surface interesting, and it also suggests that the model is going somewhere or has arrived from somewhere.

Usage tips

• First wash the part in lukewarm water with detergent and let it dry thoroughly.
• Apply a primer before painting, because paint will not hold on smooth resin.
• Paint the paving in layers and differentiate the individual stones, as a single-color surface looks artificial.
• Bring out the joints with a wash and wipe the excess across the stones, not along them.
• Add grass, mud or dust into the joints, because clean paving looks brand new.
• Place the model on the base so that it does not stand exactly in the middle, as the center looks static.

Who it is for

The base suits modelers of military vehicles, figure painters and collectors who want to display finished models. The work is quick, because nothing is built, only painted, and yet the result changes the impression of the model more than most small improvements.

It is not a vehicle model or a kit of military equipment. Paints, glue and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
