Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Type XXIII coastal submarine in 1:35 scale from Bronco. The hull and the superstructure have engraved panel and access hatch detail, the conning tower has a detailed interior and some of the hatches can be built open. The rudder and the propeller are movable. The box holds decals and parts for several marking options. The manufacturer rates the kit at the fourth level of difficulty out of five.
The Type XXIII was a small German coastal submarine of 1944 and 1945, built on the same engineering idea as the larger Type XXI: a large battery capacity and a smooth faired hull allowed a long and fast run submerged. The boat carried only two torpedoes, but it was extremely hard to find in confined coastal waters. They were deployed in the North Sea, in the Baltic and in the Channel, above all against Allied convoys. Only a few of them got into action before the end of the war.
The hull is smooth and its lengthwise seam is conspicuous, so once it is glued, fill and sand it back carefully and spray the surface with filler primer. Finish and paint the inside of the conning tower before you close it up. Do not paint the dark hull in pure black, a very dark gray suits it better. Marine growth on the lower part of the hull, rust and chipped paint around the hatch will give the boat some age. Fit the movable rudder and propeller so that no glue gets into their pivots.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, a stand and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
