The launch site of the V-1 flying bomb in 1:35 scale from Takom. A plastic kit of the missile with its launch ramp.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit covers the whole launch site, that is not only the missile itself but also the ramp it was launched from. With a model of this kind that matters: without the ramp the V-1 is just an oddly shaped small aircraft, whereas with the site a scene is created that explains how the weapon worked. In 1:35 scale the ramp also makes it possible to build a diorama with figures and a crew.
The V-1 was a German unmanned flying bomb of the end of the Second World War. It was powered by a pulsejet engine, that is a device with no rotating parts that took in air intermittently through a set of flaps. Its characteristic pulsing sound gave it the nickname known to the inhabitants of the cities it hit. The missile had no guidance to its target: it flew on a set heading and fell to the ground once a set distance had run out. It was launched from an inclined ramp with a steam catapult, because the pulsejet could not get the machine up to speed on its own.
Assemble the ramp on a flat surface and keep checking that it is straight, as on a long part a deviation adds up. Paint the inside of the pulsejet before you close it. The ramp was a steel structure exposed to the weather, so it takes bold weathering with rust and mud, while the missile was new. That contrast will benefit the scene.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
