Lukgraph is a small Polish specialist manufacturer from Krakow that has devoted itself since 2006 to resin and 3D-printed multimedia kits, focused mainly on interwar and earlier aviation. The runs are limited. This model is listed as a fully 3D-printed kit; it is not injection-molded plastic and it is certainly not a kit for beginners. The Spanish version has its own fuselage, a modified radiator and different landing gear, so it really does differ from the British form of the aircraft. The large 1:32 scale means an impressive model with rich detail, and also a fair helping of extra work.
The Hawker Fury was a British interwar fighter biplane of the 1930s: elegant, cleanly shaped and fast, the first fighter in Royal Air Force service to exceed 200 miles per hour in level flight. The Spanish chapter is short but all the more interesting: in 1935 Spain ordered three machines with a view to license production of more. The aircraft were given a more powerful Hispano-Suiza engine and cantilever landing gear with sprung wheels, which made them faster than the British production Furys. They were delivered without armament on July 11, 1936, only a few days before the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. The Republican Air Force took them over, armed them with machine guns from wrecked aircraft and used one of the machines in the defense of Madrid, where it was destroyed in a crash in the autumn of 1936. Another made a forced landing behind the front line and fell into enemy hands. Against the modern monoplanes that soon reached Spain, a biplane no longer stood a chance.
Count on the sequence typical of resin and printed kits: first wash the parts to remove uncured resin, carefully cut off the print supports and sand the faces, always with respiratory protection, preferably wet. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate); ordinary cement for plastic does not work here. A primer is needed before painting, and it will at the same time reveal small surface flaws. The most demanding part of the build is the rigging, the wires and bracing between the wings. On a biplane in 1:32 scale it is long, careful and the most visible work there is: it pays to prepare the holes for the wires before the wings are glued on and to work through it systematically from the drawing. Drawn monofilament, wire or tensioned elastic thread is used for the rigging.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a kit of 3D-printed parts. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
