Careful, this is not a kit. It is a sheet of water-slide decals in 1:24 scale from the Japanese maker Studio27 with which you will turn an ordinary model of the Mercedes SLS AMG into a service car of the Dubai police. The sheet is designed for the Fujimi kit, and the model of the car itself, paints and clear coats are not included in the package and have to be obtained separately.
The Dubai police has the most expensive police fleet in the world. Besides the SLS, a Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Bentley, McLaren, Nissan GT-R and Audi R8 really do serve in it; it is neither a joke nor a photomontage, these are genuine service vehicles. The official reason is not deployment in chases, but prestige, PR and a tourist attraction: the cars stand in prominent places and people take photographs beside them. The livery is uniform, a white body with a green stripe in the colors of the Dubai police and lettering in Arabic and English. The Mercedes SLS AMG joined the fleet in 2013 and it is the most striking of the whole line-up: it has doors that open upward like gull wings, a tribute to the legendary 300 SL Gullwing. The wings are precisely the most striking element on a model, as a police SLS with the doors open is a competition photograph.
The most important advice goes: the body has to be white. The sheet counts on a white car and the green stripe and the lettering are applied to a white base. White, though, is harder to spray than other shades, as it calls for a good primer and more thin layers, otherwise the plastic shows through and the shade is uneven. The decals then belong exclusively on gloss clear coat; on a matte surface air is caught under the film and the decal silvers, which is the single most common mistake. On the curved sides and the long side stripe across the whole body use decal softener, otherwise the film will not draw into the shapes. At the end clear coat and polishing: service cars are polished and on a police car that wet gloss makes half the result.
