A set of eleven finished model trees from the German maker HEKI, eight to seventeen centimeters tall, put together for a Mediterranean landscape. The nine-centimeter span between the smallest and the largest piece matters here: a southern landscape is broken up, the trees in it grow on slopes and terraces at different ages, and an assortment with a single height could not capture it. At the same time, eleven pieces are enough to build a whole scene from, not just an accompaniment.

How to work with the trees

The trees are pushed into pre-drilled holes or glued by the foot of the trunk. Before you start gluing, lay the whole set out dry and look at it from the place you view the scene from; with a set that has a large spread of heights that goes double. Taller pieces belong at the back, lower ones at the front. Do not put a saturated green lawn under the trees; use dry growth, stones and dust.
