HEKI Textured Grass Mat, Light Green, 19x30 cm

A grass mat from the German maker HEKI measuring one hundred and ninety by three hundred millimeters, that is, nineteen by thirty centimeters. The word textured points to what modelers reach for most often in grass materials: the growth is not the same height or density across the whole area but alternates denser clumps with thinned-out patches. It is exactly this unevenness that an ordinary uniform mat lacks and that a viewer spots at once.

Use

• meadows and grassy strips between fields with naturally uneven density of growth
• areas where it should show that mowing is not regular
• embankments, slopes and plot boundaries
• grassy areas in the foreground of a scene
• adding more varied sections to a uniform mat

How to work with the mat

Apply spray adhesive to a new base and press the mat down. On an area that is already grassed you do not need glue. With a textured mat it pays to choose which part goes where: denser sections belong in hollows and by obstacles, thinned-out patches on crests and by lanes. Tear the pieces so that the break never runs through a prominent clump.

Who the mat is for

For layout and diorama builders who are bothered by the uniformity of ordinary grass mats, and for modelers fine-tuning the foreground of a scene. This is modeling material, not a toy. The manufacturer marks its scenery products as unsuitable for children under fifteen.
