Jagdtiger in 1:35 scale — the first part of a two-part etched set that refines the external sheet-metal elements of the heaviest German fighting vehicle to see service. Target kit: Dragon.
Responsibility details are not available.
A colossus with a casemate built on the lengthened hull of a heavy tank looks massive on a model, but it is precisely on large flat surfaces that the thickness of plastic is most glaring. The opening package from Royal Model therefore replaces the external sheet-metal elements with metal and adds the small items that give the giant vehicle its scale. A kit is not in the package. The set is intended for the Dragon kit.
The Sd.Kfz. 186 carried a 12.8 cm gun with which it could knock out an opponent at a distance from which Allied tanks could not threaten it at all. The price was a weight of over seventy tons, a woeful range and an unreliable transmission. Two forms of the running gear came about, one to the Porsche design and the other to the Henschel one, which can be told apart by the arrangement of the road wheels. They were deployed with tank destroyer battalions fighting in 1945 in the west and in the east, and a number of machines ended up abandoned for want of fuel rather than destroyed in combat.
Glue the large flat parts gradually from one edge, so that the metal does not ripple. The riveted strips seat well along the scribed lines on the plastic. Traces of scraped armor stand out if you carefully polish the surface with a pencil lead after painting.
The set extends a model sold separately and does not contain paints or glue.
