The Pz.Kpfw. IV was a German medium tank that was built throughout the Second World War. The turning point in its career came with the long barrel: from 1942 the short gun meant for infantry support was replaced by the 7.5 cm KwK 40, thanks to which the tank held its own against its opponents too. The L/48 designation gives the length of the barrel in multiples of the caliber, that is forty-eight times 7.5 cm; it is not a second figure for the caliber. This barrel was carried by the late forms of the Ausf. G version and after them by the Ausf. H and J versions.
A replacement for the barrel part from the kit. The barrel itself is turned from metal, so it is perfectly straight, has a hollowed muzzle and carries no joint between two halves, which is hard to sand out on a cylindrical surface. The muzzle brake is, according to the name, produced by 3D printing, which allows its internal shapes to be drawn out finely. The form of the parts and their number are stated by the manufacturer.
Cut the plastic barrel off at the root, level the surface and pre-drill the opening as needed. Fit the metal barrel dry first and check that it sits on the axis of the turret and that the muzzle is not tilted. With the printed muzzle brake, first remove the remains of the print supports, lightly sand the spots they leave and inspect the part against the light. You will join the two parts with super glue. Before painting, wash and degrease both the metal and the printed part and lay down a primer, otherwise the finish will not hold on the smooth surface.
The kit of the tank, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
