A kit of the German RSO/01 tracked tractor with the simplified wooden cab, scale 1:35.

The Raupenschlepper Ost came about from hard experience: the wheeled trucks of the German army got stuck on the sodden roads beyond the river Bug and the supply line came to a halt. The answer was a simple fully tracked tractor with a large contact area, which got through where wheels only dug a hole. It went into production in 1942 and was built at several works at once.
Speed was not its forte; on a road it moved at something more like the pace of a brisk walk. It did carry a load, though, towed an anti-tank gun of 7.5 cm caliber and in worse conditions took the place of a whole column of vehicles. A line of derived machines gradually came out of it, from a workshop vehicle to a field kitchen. The later examples received a simplified form of wood and canvas instead of a pressed sheet-metal cab, because both sheet metal and working time were needed elsewhere. It is precisely this version that the kit captures.
This is a classic kit of injection-molded plastic which has to be glued together and painted. The wooden cab is rewarding for a modeler: wood can be shaded with a glaze or with oil paints and the result differs markedly from smoothly sprayed sheet metal. The tractor moreover comes into its own in a diorama with mud, where it is visible why it came about at all. The marks of tracks in a rutted road will do half the work for you in the process.
