The BTR-80 is an eight-wheeled armored personnel carrier developed in the Soviet Union as the successor to the earlier BTR-60 and BTR-70 types. It entered service in the second half of the 1980s and brought a single diesel engine, better access doors and a new arrangement of the armament. The vehicle is fully amphibious and crosses water obstacles thanks to a water jet. The BTR-80 spread to a number of armies and became one of the most typical wheeled carriers of its generation.
