The conversion package 1:35 Sd.Kfz. 251/7 Ausf. C - Part. 1 joins resin with photo-etched metal and converts the early half-track into the engineer version with assault ramps. The set is intended for the Dragon kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The contents consist of cast resin parts and photo-formed sheet. Unlike the sets for the later hull, this one is cut to the Ausf. C form with faceted sides and is listed as the first part of the conversion. Modelers who want a version other than the ubiquitous rank-and-file carrier in their collection will appreciate it. It is based on the dimensions of the Dragon kit.
The engineer squads of the armored grenadiers needed a vehicle that would get them to an obstacle together with their load. The Pionierpanzerwagen therefore carried folding ramps along both sides of the hull and inside it carried engineer tools, explosives and means for clearing mines. It appeared at the beginning of the 1940s, that is at a time when the German formations were advancing fast and the main brake was bridges and ditches, not enemy resistance. The ramps could be lowered forward across an obstacle and also used as an improvised footbridge for infantry.
The photo-etched ramps are made up of several layers, so first study how they follow on from each other and only then reach for the glue. Make the bends in one go; repeated straightening tires the metal and the material will crack. Roughen the resin surfaces before joining them, as a smooth casting holds considerably less well. Let the finished assembly rest for a day; cyanoacrylate gains its full strength gradually.
The finish and the filling are entirely up to the modeler.
