An injection-molded plastic kit of the Italian heavy field gun Cannone da 149/40 in 1:72 scale from the Italian brand Italeri. Besides the gun itself with its long barrel, breech and split trail carriage, the box also contains a set of artillery crew figures, so a whole firing scene can be built from it. The exact contents of the particular box are given in the instructions inside.
The Cannone da 149/40 was an Italian 149 mm heavy field gun with a long barrel of forty calibers, one of the most modern Italian artillery weapons of its day. It was created in the second half of the 1930s as a replacement for obsolete heavy artillery and it had a high muzzle velocity and a long range. Only a small number were built, and for firing it was set up on a split trail carriage; for transport it was broken down and towed by a heavy artillery tractor. It was committed on the North African as well as the Eastern battlefield, and some captured guns were later used by the German army too.
The gun builds up more slowly than it might seem - it pays to line up the carriage, the shield and the elevation mechanism cleanly. Glue the long barrel carefully aligned so that it is not bent. Bring the metal parts of the barrel and the breech to life with a dry brush and a steel pigment. Complement the base sand or gray-green finish with shading, dark washes into the joints and dust pigments on the ends of the trail arms and on the wheels. Paint the crew figures separately and place them around the gun for a lively firing scene.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
