A set for assembling a mobile field forge in 1:72 scale. A forge on wheels belonged to the train of every army, because without a blacksmith nothing could move: the horses needed shoes, the wagons needed ironbound rims and the equipment needed repairs. On a diorama it gives the scene activity, which is exactly what a static row of figures lacks.
The field forge was a cart with a hearth, a bellows and an anvil that could be set up practically anywhere. It stood in the rear, close to the train and the horse lines, and it worked without a break. The work of the blacksmith decided whether a battery would drive out of its position or stay put with a broken wheel. The equipment was rounded out by a stock of iron, coal and finished horseshoes carried on the cart itself.
The hearth is a rewarding place for a light effect: a dark base, orange over it and finally an almost white core of glowing coals. The metal parts look best after a black base and a polish over it with a metallic shade. Deal with the wood using thin glazes. Dry-fit the whole scene beforehand and think through where the blacksmith will stand, so that the anvil does not end up behind his back.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
