1:72 115 mm Ammunition for T-62

The real subject

The T-62 was a Soviet tank introduced at the beginning of the 1960s, and as its main weapon it got a 115 mm smoothbore gun. This caliber is characteristic of the T-62; on the later types with a 125 mm caliber the same ammunition was not used. In a scene the rounds serve as an understandable sign that a vehicle is replenishing ammunition or getting ready to move out.

What the set contains

The package is made up of separate 115 mm rounds reduced to 1:72 scale. In this scale a larger cut of terrain fits on a base, so a supply point with ammunition laid out beside a vehicle or a truck has room to grow. The parts are not tied to one particular kit and you place them according to the story the scene is to carry.

Building and painting tips

• Paint them away from the scene; hold the parts with double-sided tape on a stick or on a piece of card.
• Thin the paint; on small parts a heavy layer floods the shape before you notice.
• Check the color scheme against a photograph of the subject, as the types of ammunition differ from each other.
• Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry.
• Bond them into the scene with the smallest possible amount of super glue, as a surplus would flood the small shape.
• Set a group of rounds out irregularly, as lined-up rows look contrived on a small area.
