Stone and Cement — a set of Vallejo pigments

This item is not a single bottle but a set of loose pigments put together around one theme: concrete, stone and building debris. The point of the set lies in the shades in it being matched to one another — concrete dust does not have a single color, and only when two or three close grayish tones meet on the model does the surface stop looking like a sprayed panel.

Use

• The powders are applied with a dry soft brush and rubbed into the surface; they take best on a matte, slightly rough base.
• Tone concrete surfaces unevenly. Mottling, darker gaps and lighter raised edges are what make concrete look like concrete.
• Mixing them with a little mineral spirits gives a slurry from which drifted dust in corners, heaps of debris or a dusty fringe at the foot of a wall can be made.
• Fix them with a binder for pigments, with mineral spirits or with a very fine mist of matte clear coat. Fixing darkens the tone, so it is better to apply less and repeat the process.
• The set combines well with earth and rust pigments — the transition from concrete to the surrounding soil should not be sharp.

Who the set is for

For builders of dioramas and vignettes with urban or industrial buildings, for modelers of ruins, bunkers, retaining walls and railroad stations, and for anyone putting a base with a concrete surface under a model. For a single vehicle model with no scene the set is needlessly broad.

These are very fine powders. Do not breathe them in, do not blow into the pots and do not work in a draft; for longer work use a respirator and wash your hands afterwards. The exact composition of the set, the number of shades and the volume of the individual pots are given on the box of the set.
