The Volkswagen Type 181 in 1:35 scale from Das Werk. A kit of the courier car with a full interior, printed wheels and decals for four military and civilian finishes.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded kit of the light Volkswagen Type 181 cross-country car in its basic version. Besides the plastic sprues and clear parts it contains three-dimensionally printed wheels and a folded canvas top, pre-cut masks for the glazing and a fully equipped interior. The doors and the front hood can be built open or closed. The decals offer four markings: two Bundeswehr cars from the 1970s and from 1991, a Dutch army car and a civilian automobile from the Netherlands.
The Type 181 was created as a cheap and undemanding vehicle built on proven Volkswagen technology. The Bundeswehr introduced it from 1969 under the designation for a partly militarized passenger car of four tenths of a ton payload with rear-wheel drive and used it for courier, liaison and training duties. Its simplicity spread it to other armies as well, and in civilian form it was sold as an open utility car.
The interior is visible through the open body, so finish and accentuate it before you seat the shell. The pre-cut masks for the glazing save work with tape and keep a clean edge on the frames. Wash the printed wheels and sand them lightly before you apply paint. The flat olive military color comes out best after the surface is unified with a primer and the pressings are lightly shaded.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
